When it comes to selecting a pair of Thai pads, the choices can be overwhelming. Hopefully we can shed some light on the differences and help you make the best choice.

First, you must determine what material best suites your needs. When it comes to quality Thai pads there are two different types of materials, leather or microfiber. Microfiber is usually lighter, anti microbial, and virtually maintenance free, while leather pads tend to be more durable with added weight, which helps them absorb the impact from heavier kicks. Leather pads will have a break in period and with heavy use will become softer. Another perk of leather pads is the weathered look over time.

The next choice will be between one or strap pads. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Single strap pads are more compact and lighter. This allows the pad holder to be more mobile and transition between combos at a faster rate. Dual strap pads are longer and heavier but, absorb heavy kicks much better than single strap pads. The added size provides the pad holder with more protection from poorly aimed strikes.

Lastly, you will have to decide on which brand best suites you. You really can’t go wrong with any of the better Thai brands. Fairtex offers entry level pads like the KPLC6 all the way up to premier models like the KPLS Superior. If your heart is set on premium or exclusive brands there are a few players in the game. Look no further than K Classic, Fairtex Superior, or Boon Sport.

Stay tuned, in our future articles we will be doing more in depth reviews on several different brands and models of Thai pads.
